- Project Objective: Understand real-world challenges of mortgage document processing and how AI can solve them.
- Tasks: Explore document types, inspect a blob, and outline key fields.
Output
A structured overview of mortgage document challenges and opportunities for AI.
Milestone 2
Python & Image Preprocessing
Week 2
Live Activities: Python + image preprocessing workshop.
Project Objective: Build foundational coding and image manipulation skills to prepare for OCR.
Tasks:
Practice Python basics, grayscale conversion, denoising, and thresholding with OpenCV/PIL.
Output
Preprocessed mortgage images ready for OCR.

Text Extraction & OCR Benchmarking
Weeks 3 & 4
- Live Activities: Hands-on PDF parsing and OCR comparison.
- Project Objective: Extract text and benchmark OCR tools for accuracy and performance.
- Tasks:
- Use PyMuPDF/pdfplumber for parsing, apply regex for field extraction, and compare Tesseract, PaddleOCR, and EasyOCR.
Output
Extracted borrower/loan fields and a report recommending the best OCR engine.
Milestone 4
Building Retrieval-Augmented Systems
Weeks 5 & 6
- Live Activities: Workshop on RAG fundamentals and mentor Q&A.
- Project Objective: Connect extracted data to LLMs for intelligent search and improve retrieval precision.
- Tasks:
- Build a simple RAG pipeline, test Gemini/Mistral, refine chunking, and apply metadata filters.
Output
A tuned RAG system capable of answering queries on mortgage data.
Milestone 5
Integration, Search & Final Delivery
Weeks 7 & 8
- Live Activities: Final project showcase with mentor feedback.
- Project Objective: Integrate blob splitting, classification, search, and UI into one end-to-end pipeline.
- Tasks:
- Build a split_and_route() function, add metadata search filters, create a simple Streamlit/Gradio UI, and test the full system.
Output
A complete document intelligence pipeline, final report, demo video, and optional user interface.

Final Deliverables
At the end of this externship, you will deliver:
- Full Python pipeline to process 200+ page mortgage blobs
- Structured JSON field-level output
